Principal's Update

Yesterday selected students represented St Benedict’s at the B Schools InterschoolAthletics Carnival at the Townsville Sports Reserve (Red Track). Congratulations to all our students for their incredible efforts at the carnival in their respective track and field events.

Thank you to Mrs Rowe and classroom teachers and staff for supporting our athletes on the day.

St Benedict’s finished 6th overall. This is a great achievement as this is the first year, we have competed in the B School section.

Sport and Physical Education at St Benedict’s

It is important for young people to play sport and stay active for their physical and mental health and wellbeing, and to develop their physical literacy. An early connection to sport canalso encourages a lifelong love of sport and physical activity.

At St Benedict’s physical education is an important part of our curriculum. We want all children to enjoy participating in physical education and sport. I am aware of the research that a significant number of young people, between the ages of 13 to 17, stop playing organised sport. We want to develop an enjoyment of physical activity and sport for all our children. As we continue to grow as a school, we will be reviewing our physical education program in preparation for the 2025 school year. The results of this review and the future direction of HPE and Sport at St Benedict’s will be communicated to parents.

School Uniform

Thank you to all parents and carers for ensuring their children are in the correct school uniform. I have included the link to our School Uniform requirements. Can parents please take note of the information contained in this school document, including personal presentation, jewellery and nail polish.

School Hats at School Locker

Our school uniform supplier, School Locker, has informed us that they will be receiving an order of St Benedict’s Hats soon. At present they do not have any stock left. We will communicate with parents when school locker informs us of the arrival of the new stock of school hats.

School Lockdown

Yesterday, as communicated to parents, the school went into a short lockdown due to an Eastern Brown Snake making its way, in open ground, through the school and then into the neighbouring bush. Lockdowns are held for various reasons. The staff and students responded very well just as they have previously practiced. As we know, snakes, particularly Eastern Brown Snakes, avoid people, as was the case yesterday.

Term 3 sickness

As many of us have experienced already, there has been a great deal of sickness at St Benedict’s this term. This has affected both students and staff. If parents and families are requiring any support or assistance during this time, please contact the school office.

I have included some links to the Queensland Health Website.
