Welcome to the end of Week 5 - the halfway point of the term!!
Last week the Year 1 Wallabies presented assembly on the Transfiguration of Jesus. This feast recognises when Jesus ascended in front of his disciples to be with God. The Wallabies reflected on this with the message that Jesus gave us was to live a happy life. They also prayed that we may learn to be kind, compassionate and loving people who strive to care for those around us, as Jesus did throughout his life.
Today, the Year 4 Butterflies presented assembly on the Feast of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop - Australia’s first saint! They told the assembly about Mary MacKillop, how she was a person of action, and that she especially loved the poor and worked hard to care for them in any way she could. In Catholic Education in particular, we owe a great deal of gratitude towards the work of Mary MacKillop and the Sisters of St Joseph, which is an order she began. They were instrumental in making Catholic education accessible for ALL people, all around Australia. In our Diocese alone, there are 4 St Joseph’s schools (2 in Townsville, 1 in Mt Isa and 1 in Cloncurry), who were opened by the sisters of St Joseph, which goes to show the reach they had, and the influence they have had on the schooling landscape of Australia today.
