APRE Report
This week we celebrated our Beginning Year Liturgy. It was wonderful to come together as a community to celebrate the year ahead. It was wonderful to have members of our School Board officially launch our 4 school values, these truly underpin who we are and what we strive to be as a school. It was also wonderful to have Fr Dave at the Liturgy to speak to our students. He spoke about a turtle, who needs to ‘stick its neck out’ in order to move forward. Fr Dave encouraged all the students to ‘stick their necks out’ to support one another and to move forward together.
Shrove Tuesday
This coming Tuesday is Shrove Tuesday, which marks the last day Lent. It came about with the custom of using up all of the fattening ingredients people had in their house before lent, so they can fast during lent. On Tuesday 5 March, we will be serving pancakes at St Benedict’s in ‘the Hall’ from 8:00am. ALL students are welcome to share in this tradition.
Ash Wednesday
This coming Wednesday is Ash Wednesday, which marks the beginning of Lent. The name comes from the tradition of putting a small cross of ash on peoples forehead which is a sign of confession and helps people to remember that they rely on God for forgiveness from their sins. During Lent, we are all given the opportunity to fix past mistakes and ask for forgiveness from those we have hurt. On Wednesday 6 March at 2:00pm, we will be having a whole school Ash Wednesday Liturgy in ‘the Hall’, ALL are welcome to attend.
Sacramental Program
Congratulations to our students participating in the Sacramental Program, who this week made the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Reconciliation underlines that our God is one of forgiveness. During the celebration, students talked to Fr Dave about what they are sorry for, who spoke to the children about how, like God, they can be forgiving of others who have done wrong to them.
Have a great week and God bless,
Nick
