Cricket Blast – Years 5 & 6

 Date: Wednesday, 4th September 2025
 Location: Gill Park

Teachers have received a form to record the names of interested students. Depending on numbers, trials may be required. At this stage, we are planning to take two teams, with the possibility of a third team if numbers allow.

Please ensure your child has informed their classroom teacher if they would like to participate

 Athletics Carnival – Friday, 27th June 2025

⏰ Start Time: 8:45am – beginning with Prep sprint races

Prep – Year 2 Students
After their sprints, P–2 students will head to the bottom oval to enjoy fun movement-based activities coordinated by Miss Rowe. These sessions are designed to foster a love for physical activity and promote enjoyment through participation.
➡️ Note: Students born in 2018 or 2017 are eligible for sprint events only at the Interschool Athletics Carnival. They will become eligible for other events once they are 8 turning 9.

Year 3 – Year 6 Students
Following the younger students, Years 3–6 will compete in sprint races and rotate through other events throughout the day: Shot Put, Long Jump and Shuttle Relays

  Please note: High Jump and 800m events will be conducted as pre-events before the main carnival day (details below).


 Athletics Program – Training with Mrs Huston

In preparation for the Athletics Carnival, Mrs Huston has been leading Friday afternoon training sessions focusing on: Shot Put, High Jump Relay Running

 Athletics Pre-Events (Ages 9- 12) – 800m & High Jump

To ensure a smooth carnival day and allow students to fully participate in all events, selected pre-events will be held in line with guidelines from other Townsville Catholic schools.

 Thursday, 26th June (Week 10)

800m Event
Students interested in competing in the 800m will be asked to nominate themselves this week. All students turning 10 years or older in 2025 are eligible.

High Jump Event
Students must demonstrate previous experience or proficiency in high jump. Interschool selection requires students to clear a set height based on Townsville sports guidelines.

⚠️ Important High Jump Safety Guidelines: According to Townsville sport and Athletics Australia 

  • Students under 10 are not permitted to use the flop technique.
  • Students wishing to use the flop technique must:
    ✅ Be coached in the technique (Little Athletics)
    ✅ Demonstrate proficiency
    ✅ Present a Certificate of Competency on the day

This certificate is a CARA safety requirement and must be submitted to participate using the flop technique.

Parents and carers are welcome to attend and cheer on their child.

A detailed email with event specifications and further information will be sent to all Years 4–6 families soon.

 Interschool Athletics Training: Once the Athletics Carnival has taken place and the Interschool Athletics Team has been selected, training for all events will commence. A schedule will be provided for selected students, which may include sessions during lunchtimes, before school, and/or Friday afternoons (1:50 pm – 2:50 pm), depending on the event and coach availability.
