APRE Report

Welcome to Week 8, it’s crazy to think there are only 2 weeks left of term!  A big thank you to Year 1 Possums for leading assembly this week, speaking about the Transfiguration of Jesus.  They reminded us take Jesus’ words into our hearts and put them into action in our lives, a great message during our Lenten season, which is a time where we are all called to action.

I have been away from school most of this week.  At the beginning of the week I attended our Townsville Catholic Education APRE Cluster meeting.  We looked a lot at Catholic Identity in our schools and what this looks like. Over our vast diocese, this looks different in many of our schools, but I’m very proud of the Catholic Identity we have formed, and one that is certainly very Benedictine in nature.  As with all things, this will be something we continue to grow and develop with our school.

On Friday, I am attending a meeting for Christian Meditation.  You may be aware that our diocese is quite unique in that Christian Meditation is offered in all of our schools.  At St Benedict’s, we have Contemplative time which is timetabled into our day, with every class partaking in a Contemplative practice between 1:50 - 2:00 pm.  This is a great time for students to take time out of their busy school schedules and lives, to breathe, be still, listen and refresh. You may have heard your children talk about our mantra which is used, ‘Maranatha’.  It may sound a little strange, but it is an Aramaic word (the language used in the time of Jesus), which translates to ‘Come Lord Jesus’.

Swimming Carnival

A huge congratulations to our Interschool Swimming team, who on Monday WON the ‘F Schools’ Swimming Carnival.  As well as taking out the overall prize, we also took home the ‘Most Improved’ trophy. I hear all of our students put in their best efforts and showed great sportsmanship during the day.  Also thank you to Miss Massato and Mrs Moore who travelled with the students to the carnival and ensured all students made it to their races on time!

Have a great week and God bless.
