This semester Prep Koalas have been exploring the basic foundations of Design and Technology, and are beginning to develop skills in Critical Thinking. So what are these areas and why are they so important for us?

Design and Technology gives young children the opportunity to develop skills, knowledge and understanding of designing and making functional products. At St Benny's we encourage and nurture creativity and innovation through design, and by exploring the designed and made world in which we live. 

Critical Thinking skills help us to make good decisions, understand the consequences of our actions, and solve problems. Critical thinking also utilises other important life skills such as making connections, perspective taking, and communicating.

In Prep Koalas we have engaged with Design and Technology, and Critical Thinking through a variety of hands on learning interactions and lessons. Our latest activities have been created and explored through water play floating and sinking, building and patterning using materials, and play linked to real life experiences.
