In Prep we highly encourage the participation of scheduled talk times throughout the year. This positive interaction builds confidence and self-esteem by giving children a chance to be in the spotlight and show off what they have to discuss. As this is a group activity it also assists in teaching children appropriate social skills. These interactions foster oral language by building vocabulary as well as self-expression, and allow children to refine their questioning techniques too. This term one of our talk times focus topic was to bring in a Family Artefact that linked with our learning of History & Religion. A family artefact is an object made by humans for their use. We asked the children to bring in an artefact or a photograph of an artefact from home. It needed to be something significant to the family for their own special reasons. We had some fantastic and varying artefacts that were presented and we loved learning more about our friends each talk time. Thank-you to each family for assisting the children it was a real highlight and very interesting!
