Welcome to the end of Week 3!
It was great to be able to have our first assembly together with our student body today. A big thank you to our Year 3 Kookaburras who did a wonderful job in leading us on the theme of ‘The Feast Day of St Joachim and Anne’. Sts Joachim and Anne were Jesus’ grandparents, and the Kookaburras assembly recognised the importance that our grandparents play in our lives and included some very special prayers for these very special people!
This week was also Catholic Education Week, marking 175 years since the first Catholic school opened in Queensland. Catholic Education Week is an opportunity for all 307 Catholic schools in Queensland to celebrate and promote their distinctive mission and ethos. Catholic education strives to make a difference in the lives of those in our schools and in the wider community, challenging young people to live out the message of Jesus and to reach their full potential as compassionate, contributing, life-giving members of society.
Have a great week and God bless,
Nick
CONTEMPLATIVE CORNER
Gazing at an picture/image
- Choose one image to contemplate (it might be online, in a picture frame on the wall, in a book, a photo, literally anywhere)
- Sit or stand and look at your chosen image. for at least a full minute.
- This is a lot longer than you might think; you’d be surprised how quickly most of us look at a painting, photograph, or sculpture.
- If you grow restless, shift your gaze to focus on a different part of the image, or scan slowly from one side of the image to the other. Or very slowly move closer to and farther away from the image.
- Answer the following questions:
- What did you first notice about this image?
- What else did you notice as you kept looking at it?
- What thoughts went through your mind while you were looking at this image?
What feelings or memories (if any) did it bring up for you? What stood out to you? What impacted you? What challenged you? What inspired you?
