APRE News
We’ve reached the end of Week 3! I think the storm mid-week has made the week feel a little longer, but overall I think our students have done well considering the weather that is currently around. Next week we have a number of important celebrations in our calendar which will be marked by liturgies, where we gather to pray as a community.
Beginning Year Liturgy
Our Beginning Year Liturgy will be on Monday 15 Feb, 9:00am in the Hall. This is our first time to gather and pray together as a community. Fr Dave, Fr Clement and Fr Joseph will be leading us in prayer, with many of our senior students (Year 6) having reading and other parts within the liturgy. It will also be our last opportunity to pray at school with Fr Dave as his retirement is fast approaching. We would like to invite all members of our community to attend if you are able.
Ash Wednesday
Ash Wednesday on Wednesday 17 Feb at 2:30pm in the Hall. This important celebration marks the beginning of the Catholic season of Lent. During this celebration, students will have ashes sprinkled over their heads (different from the traditional cross due to Covid restrictions called from the Vatican). Students will be learning more about Ash Wednesday and the season of Lent to Religious Education classes throughout the week.
Shrove Tuesday
Tuesday 16 Feb is Shrove Tuesday, which marks the day BEFORE the season of Lent begins. This celebration came about with the custom of using up all of the fattening ingredients people had in the house before lent, so they can fast during lent - other people refer to it as Pancake Tuesday. Our St Benedict’s P&F will be cooking and delivering pancakes to classrooms in the morning of Shrove Tuesday - please contact the P&F if you might be able to assist with this.
