St Benny’s Way of PEACE - Empathy
This term as part of our focus on ways we show PEACE, Empathy will focus on how we say sorry and the reasons why we do this. Apologising is tough - it makes us feel vulnerable - a state of being none of us often feel comfortable with. This is normal, but for kids, it means we really need to support them through modelling and structured responses to express a genuine apology. The support agency Understood has some great resources that can support those with ASD to understand how to provide a genuine apology. The key aspects focus on SORRY
S: stand up and acknowledge what happened
O: own your choices
R: respond differently than the first reaction
R: repair the damage by making it better
Y: yield to (accept) the feelings of others and that they may be upset
This is a great model to use with children as it helps to combine the elements of responsibility and relationships to address a behaviour choice and move forward.
Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you. Ephesians 4:32
P&F - Burgers by the Billabong
The countdown is on for the anticipated Burgers by the Billabong Event. Saturday 31st July from 4 - 6pm will be the time for coming together as a community and celebrating all we share to round out Catholic Education Week. There will be Pulled Pork and Steak Burgers along with Sausages from the BBQ for sale.
The famed cake stall will also be running again. Volunteer bakers can drop off their goods on the Friday afternoon after Benny’s Got Talent or bring them on the day. Please assist by listing the ingredients which can be as simple as attaching the recipe. Please split the goods into individual, 2, 4 or 6 options. Remember to bring your small change for the stall!
Keep an eye on the Parent FB Page for more details this week. Of course, bring along a picnic rug or camp chair and enjoy a relaxed afternoon and enjoy some fun and games. See you all there!
Thanks
