Pupil Free Day
We have had a very valuable day of professional learning around the Principles and attributes of quality assessment, Feedback, our Moderation process and Developing a folio of work with reference to the Standard Elaborations for the Australian Curriculum. While none of this is particularly new, it is important that we take days like today to review our practice to discern what is working well and identify areas for improvement. This is important in any school but even more so in a school that is growing as fast as we are. I am very grateful to our parents who have had to make adjustments to their work schedule to accommodate days like this for us and especially to our staff who always engage so professionally with such a positive approach to being the best we can.
Festival of Sport
This week we had over 50 of our senior students represent our school in the Townsville Catholic Education Festival of Sport. We had students participating in an Oz Tag, Netball and Basketball competition. From all reports, students have had a fantastic day with lots of competition and great sportsmanship.
Father’s Day
I would like to take this opportunity to wish all our Fathers and father figures in a school a very special day on Sunday. It looks like our Mini Golf Fun Day is going to be quite an event with lots of families joining in.
Have a fabulous week.
Cheers
Penny Collins
It’s been a quieter day at school today without our students in class, but our teachers and school officers have been hard at work continuing to build on their professional capacity. I had the opportunity to lead prayer this morning, and I thought I would share elements of this with you, as the message is one that I feel is relevant for all at this time of year.
The theme of the prayer was “Peace - be still’. We started with the Psalm 46 passage, “Be still and know that I am God”. I then shared the Gospel of Jesus calming the storm in Mark:
Jesus Stills a Storm Mk 4:35-41
35 On that day, when evening had come, he said to them, “Let us go across to the other side.” 36 And leaving the crowd behind, they took him with them in the boat, just as he was. Other boats were with him. 37 A great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that the boat was already being swamped. 38 But he was in the stern, asleep on the cushion; and they woke him up and said to him, “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?” 39 He woke up and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” Then the wind ceased, and there was a dead calm. 40 He said to them, “Why are you afraid? Have you still no faith?” 41 And they were filled with great awe and said to one another, “Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?”
I gave the staff the opportunity to reflect on this passage on their own, as different people will naturally interpret and take different meanings from the text. I hope you might be able to take time over the weekend, find Peace and Be Still - in whatever way might be nourishing for you.
Finally, a very HAPPY FATHER’s Day for Sunday! Being a father is definitely my favourite job in the world and I’ve been blessed to learn so much from my own father. They are important figures in our lives, and I hope you are able to take time over the weekend to appreciate or spend time with your father/father figure over the weekend.

End of Term Tiredness
As we head into the last couple of weeks of term, we will once again begin to see our students, staff and parents all feeling the tiredness of another busy period of learning. We have also seen lots of students struggling with being unwell. As we enter the season of Spring, it's a perfect time to take pause and reflect on God’s gifts and beauty and use this as a source of renewal. May you be filled with the wonder and rejuvenated as we progress to the end of the year.
Father’s Day Mini Golf Challenge
We are looking forward to welcoming lots of our families on Sunday for our first Father’s Day Mini Golf Challenge. We will have around 70 adults and children coming together to enjoy this fun day. We hope that all families are able to reflect and celebrate the important male role models in their lives. We also take time to remember those special males in our lives who have left us or those we cannot be with, in particular due to Covid.
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.” John 3: 16-17
Don’t forget we have extended our Father’s Day Raffle ticket sales until Friday 10th September.
