We’ve reached the end of Week 2 and are starting to get into the swing of the term. We had Year 1 Possums lead us in assembly today with the theme on the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary. They led the whole school in praying 1 decade of the rosary, and prayed that through the gift of the Rosary, we can reflect on Jesus’ life and the messages he gave us.
Mission Month
October is Mission Month, where we look at the work that Catholic Mission Australia is doing for people in need around the world (including in Australia). This year our students are participating in a ‘Socktober’ challenge, where they use a “sock ball”, compare it with a normal soccer ball to “kick goals” for kids in need with a shootout challenge that each class is participating in. Part of this challenge is to help children discover the reality for children in Thailand and other countries compared to their own. On Friday we are having ‘Crazy Sock Day’, where students are invited to wear their craziest socks to school for a gold coin donation, with all money raised going towards Catholic Mission Australia.
When we consider our school value of Stewardship, we (very naturally) always go to caring for the environment, our natural world. It’s also valuable to remember that Stewardship is also about caring for people, and one the of the reasons why Mission Month is such a valuable learning experience for our children

Year 1 Wallabies have been learning about acrostic poems. An acrostic poem is when the first letter of each line spells out a word or message. As our mentor text is Bin chicken by Kate and Jol Temple, this week we created an acrostic poem with the word IBIS. The students created their rough draft, where they came up with the adjectives for their acrostic poem. Then the students painted their Ibis, and wrote their poems.
Just a reminder when collecting your children, to wait in the hall until 3pm and not outside the classrooms. This has been advised multiple times as it can disrupt the students in the classroom.
