Today we acknowledge World Teachers Day to recognise the wonderful work of teachers across the world, some in very difficult places and circumstances. While our teachers have a beautiful place to work, it is certainly a special group of teachers to take on the challenges of a new school. As St Benedict’s has taken on new approaches in education, including flexible learning spaces and project based learning, our teachers have had to rethink most aspects of their teaching to apply strategies that promote student engagement as that is what we believe fosters student success. Our teachers often say, while this is the hardest they have ever worked, it is also the most fulfilled they have felt in their work and that is something we can all be very proud of as we build our community.
Today we also acknowledged ‘Day for Daniel’ by wearing red shirts and having lessons about making safe choices. If you would like to know more about the Daniel Morcombe Foundation, please check out their website as they have fantastic resources to assist when talking to children about being safe.
Next week we have a Book Fair from Wednesday to Friday. All students will get an opportunity to explore the options and create a Wish List. This may be something you could use for some fabulous Christmas gifts :) Our Librarian, Jackie will be available before and after school for any parents that want to pop in with or without the school kids. Next week, we are getting involved with Outdoor classroom day which is an initiative to take learning outside and do more hands on interactive activities. As part of this day we will be having a liturgy to celebrate All Saints Day and having a Missions Market Day stall where the kids can bring in some money to purchase different items or activities being provided by each class. All funds raised will go to support Catholic Missions Australia. We are thoroughly looking forward to a number of outdoor activities on Thursday for our Outdoor Classroom day.
Please note the survey you should have received via email this week from our P&F. We’d particularly like your feedback even if you don’t have time or interest in being involved with the P&F. We are getting ready to consider our plans going into 2019 and would like to prioritise the expectations of our community so your input is important.
Have a fabulous week
Cheers
