Assemblies
It has been so nice having so many parents come along to our assemblies the last two weeks. It really seems to lift the kids confidence and participation. It is so crazy that we have had so few opportunities to welcome parents into classrooms with all the Covid disruptions so our students and staff are loving having families come in.
Walk to School Day
Next Friday is Walk Safely to School Day. If families would like to join in or would like someone to walk with, we can meet at the Greater Ascot Lights at 8.00am and walk to school together. This is an initiative that is promoted by the Qld Government to increase the number of children riding or walking to school or at least walking or riding part of the way.
Prep 2023
Enrolment offers for Prep 2023 are emailed out on Tuesday 17 May for our first round. We are so pleased to have had the level of interest we have experienced this year for families wanting to come to our school. Thank you to all of you in our community who have spoken so highly of our school and encouraged families to enrol here. Unfortunately we can’t fit everyone but it is certainly good to see we are on the right track.
Under 8’s Day- ‘Play in Changing World’
We look forward to hosting all our Kindy students and our 2023 Prep students along with our own Prep - Year 2 students on Friday for Under 8’s day. Under 8’s Day also coincides with World Bee Day so we have lots of activities combining the two events.
Have a fabulous week.
Cheers

Welcome to the end of Week 4! Our Year 4 Butterflies lead us beautifully in assembly today on the theme of Mother’s Day. Their prayer called us to value and appreciate our mother’s and spoke about how they embody God’s love through how they nurture, care for and love us.
Next week in Australia we celebrate ‘Laudato Si’ week. This year is the 7th anniversary of Pope Francis’ encyclical letter calling ALL people to ‘Care for our Common Home’. The letter helps Catholics to understand the connection that people have to the whole of creation and that caring for the Earth is a big way that we can live out our faith. In the letter he states that, “All of us can cooperate as instruments of God for the care of creation, each according to his or her own culture, experience, involvements and talents”. At St Benedict’s, Laudato Si formed the basis of many of the wonderful environmental initiatives that we have undertaken, even before we opened the school as a wonderful and simple way of living out our Catholic faith. We look forward to hearing about how classes have celebrated God’s call to care for our environment. Friendships can be tough [Parenting Tip]
Kids practise the skills they learn about how to navigate the world by practising with their friends. This can often lead to tricky situations that our children will come to us for advice on. This is something to be embraced and can offer a time to engage deeply with your child’s feelings. Making them feel heard and understanding what is going on for them will help build a bonded relationship that will last a lifetime. Some parenting hints along the way are never a bad thing though. The Big Life Journal has some great tips that can help in this area.
