What a fantastic day our kids had on Thursday with Outdoor Classroom Day and Mission Month Markets. Outdoor Classroom Day was a wonderful opportunity to explore some different activities and locations around our school for learning and to be a part of a global campaign.
Outdoor Classroom Day celebrates and inspires outdoor learning and play. On the day, thousands of schools around the world take lessons outdoors and prioritise playtime. In 2017, over 2.3 million children worldwide took part, almost 200,000 of those were in Australia. Outdoor learning improves children’s health, engages them with learning and leads to a greater connection with nature. Play not only teaches critical life skills such as resilience, teamwork and creativity, but is central to children’s enjoyment of childhood. When adults think back to their own happiest memories of childhood, they frequently recall the joy of playing outdoors. Play is not only central to children’s enjoyment of childhood, but teaches critical life skills such as problem-solving, teamwork and creativity.

Our Mission Markets were also a fabulous success raising over $700 for Catholic Missions from our small school community. Each class set up a stall where they sold items like pre-loved toys, popcorn, lolly kebabs or jelly cups or there were class stalls with games like throwing a dart at balloons for a prize, bean bag hoop throws or chocolate pond throws. The kids had a great time and it was really lovely to have so many parents along to join in the fun. Thank you so much to all parents who donated bits and pieces for each of the stalls, we couldn’t do it without you.
Finally, I would like to give a big shout out to out Librarian, Jackie Whalley who has put in a lot of extra hours this week with our Book Fair which has been a wonderful success. It is great to see such an interest in the variety of books on offer. You do have til Monday morning to place any final orders if you haven’t got in yet.
Next week, we have our swimming lessons starting so please refer to your class teacher if you have any questions. We look forward to seeing all the students have a go.
Have a fabulous week
Cheers

BOOK FAIR REMINDER........
Last chance for orders this coming Monday. We will be open prior to school from 7.45 am.
To avoid disappointment please have all orders in by 11.00am SHARP on Monday.
Please be aware any parent paying for Book Fair at home online, you must still bring your child's order to the school. Payment does not automatically order your books, as it does in Book Club via LOOP.
The school needs the list of books that you have ordered your child.
4/5/6 Turtles have enjoyed learning about poetry this term. This week the students worked in groups to create different types of poems. For instance, one group created a ballad, another group created an ode, another created an acrostic and so on. The students voted on the topic to write the poems about. They were so excited about the year 2 chickens arriving it was almost an unanimous vote that our poems had to be about chickens. The students collaborated really well and have produced some great poems.
