Swimming Carnival
Big thanks to our school community for your participation and support at the Swimming Carnival on Thursday. While most schools start their Swimming Carnivals from Year 3 and above, we welcomed and included our whole school community from Prep to Year 6. We were so proud of the kids for putting in their best effort with the races in the morning session and then enjoying various novelty activities for the end of the day. It was especially pleasing to see so many parents and families coming along or even joining in with the novelty activities. As we grow and move forward, our races will become more formalised from Year 3 up but I would always hope to include our whole school. I would especially like to acknowledge Stevie-Lee Rowe, Nick Christie and Joe Apap for their planning, organisation and for setting and packing up. Great effort team :)
Transitioning to 2019- Teachers, Class lists and Step up/ Orientation
We are getting very close to the point where we are preparing for the transition to 2019. We have finalised our classroom teacher staffing and will have our school officers sorted very soon. Next year we welcome four new teachers to our school- Mrs Caitlin Smith, Mrs Gabby Torrens, Ms Pierina Masatto and Mrs Lizzy Christie.
Prep Bilbies- Mrs Ros Baumann
Prep Koalas- Miss Jess Smit
Prep Platypus- Mrs Caitlin Smith
Year 1 Possums- Mrs Lauren Horsnell
Year 1 Echidnas- Mrs Jenny Gurnett
Year 1 Wallabies- Mrs Gabby Torrens
Year 2 Curlews- Miss Rebecca Curley
Year 3 Kookaburras- Mrs Rhylie Matthiesen
Year 4 Dragonflies- Ms Pierina Masatto
Year 5 / 6 Turtles- Mrs Aleesha Rockemer and Mrs Lizzy Christie
Please note that class lists are being finalised over the next couple of weeks in consultation with Kindy teachers for Prep and with Prep teachers for Year 1. Consideration is given to gender balance and students learning and social needs. We will do our best to mix the students effectively to create a positive learning environment. Please note that I will not consider requests for particular teachers as all teachers are highly valued and capable.
Over the next couple of weeks, our new staff will be joining us for planning days with their year level colleagues and we will take this opportunity to introduce them to the students. On Tuesday December 4, we are having a Step Up / Orientation Day where our Year 6 students will head off to Ryan Catholic College and each grade below will step up to the their new classroom, with the new class teacher and class group for the morning session. This will be a valuable and probably fairly exciting time for our school community to welcome our new staff, new students and the approaching new year. After morning tea each class will go back to their regular class to finish out the day. Our new staff will stay on for some further Induction processes.
For our Kindy transition to Prep, we have some other activities happening leading towards the Orientation Day on Tuesday Dec 4 to help familiarise them with our place and expectations. You may have noticed they are joining us for assembly each week and soon will have play dates with other new students coming to Prep in 2019 who aren’t from our Kindy and then they will join with our current Preps to be welcomed to our school and learn the expectations around the playground and toilets etc. We hope our Preps will be good little role models :)
Have a fabulous week
Cheers
Penny
