Fun Run
It was wonderful to see the kids give it their all today on what turned out to be a hot day. The past 2 years we have had to postpone the fun run due to rain - mother nature can be fickle. Thanks to all the parents, carers and special guests who came to cheer the kids on.
Class Teacher News
As you are aware, Miss Dow is finishing up with St Benedict's today. We wish her well on her new journey. We are excited to let you know that we have Mrs Alicia Stokes joining our school and the Year 5 Turtles from next term. Mrs Stokes has been working in a relief teacher capacity, including with the year 5's and loves all that St Benedict's has to offer your children. We look forward to welcoming Mrs Stokes next term and look forward to all she has to offer too.
Head Knocks
We have recently reviewed our guidelines for Head Knock incidents. If a student hits their head at school we will be contacting parents/carers to take them home and monitor them. I am sure you can understand the possible severity of head knocks, and that our children are safest at home or seen by a doctor.
Building/Roadworks
There will be lots of work happening over the school holidays. There is a planned site meeting next week for both projects. It is anticipated that there will be changes made to the school carpark either in the second week of the holidays or first week of Term 2. We ask for your patience and understanding as these changes roll out. The temporary access road will run from the lights at Greater Ascot and enter into the lower end of our school carpark. The access way via Bishop Putney Avenue will be closed off within the next few weeks. I will share more information as it comes to hand.
Easter Prayers
This is a special time of reflection and prayer and represents the pinnacle of the Christian calendar for Catholics. I wish you a happy and Holy Easter period. We look forward to see you all back and refreshed in Term 2.
Blessings
Ros
Holy Week Journey
Our classes over the last 2 weeks have undertaken the journey of Holy Week, remembering the events in the lead up to the death of Jesus. During this, they spend time reflecting on events including; Palm Sunday, the Last Supper, the Washing of the Feet, Judas’ betrayal and Jesus carrying the cross. Through all of this, the message came down to how we can be people of love, peace and forgiveness, as Jesus taught us. Our parish, the Ministerial Region of the Good Shepherd, will be holding a number of services around Holy Week. Please check on their notices to find a time that might suit your family.
Northern Region Rugby League and Netball
Today I had the pleasure of joining the Rugby League team at Brothers for a day of hard hitting action. It was great to see the development of the players throughout the day, with a huge improvement from the first to the last game. We also had our very first Interschool Football win in St Benny’s colours, which was very exciting. It was great to see the team get together and show good sportsmanship throughout the day.
I wasn’t at Netball, but I have heard some good results and I’m sure the team over at Murray put in a big effort throughout the day. A big thanks to the teachers, Mr P, Miss Garbutt, Mr Callum and Mrs Kern, who helped on the day, and a extra big thanks to Aaron Payne who helped give some coaching sessions to the footy side this year.
Project Compassion
Each week, Project Compassion has a video to show how they are supporting people and communities around the world. Please see the link below to see one of the many projects around the world and to see where your donations might be spent. We will do the final collection of school boxes at the end of Term 2, Week 1.

Learning & Teaching Adviser and Acting APA
It's been an incredible first term at our school! Our students have had the opportunity to dive into their learning and explore new topics, and students and teachers have had the opportunity to get to know each other and build strong relationships. As we come to the end of term, we hope everyone takes some time to relax and enjoy the upcoming holidays. We look forward to seeing everyone back at school for the start of the new term! If you are looking for something to do on the holidays check out the ‘TCE School Holiday Guide - Easter Edition.’
Wishing you a blessed and holy Easter,

In this edition of SchoolTV - BLENDED FAMILIES
Blended or stepfamilies, come in all shapes and sizes. Today, the term “blended family” is more commonly used as opposed to “stepfamily”. Although their original meanings differ slightly, today both terms are used interchangeably. This is mostly due to some of the negative connotations associated with fairytale characters such as the evil stepmother or stepsister.
The blended family is the fastest growing family dynamic in the world with one in five families now being a ‘step’ or ‘blended’ family. However, when families “blend,” it rarely progresses smoothly. Some children resist change, and parents become frustrated when the new family doesn’t function in the same way as the previous one.
For many step-parent’s, the greatest challenge lies in determining what their role is within the family. The process can be both rewarding and challenging. Children affected by the union of a new couple may not be excited at the prospect of becoming part of a new family.
Although blending families requires adjustment and patience from everyone involved, in this edition of SchoolTV, parents will be given some guidelines of real expectations that can help their new family work through the growing pains.
We hope you take time to reflect on the information offered in this edition of SchoolTV and we always welcome your feedback. If you have any concerns about your child, please contact the school counsellor for further information or seek medical or professional help.
