Welcome back to Term 2. We have so many exciting things to look forward to this term.

It was lovely to start off the term with our Defence student led ANZAC Day Liturgy. Thanks to our special guests who came and delivered the ANZAC address, recited the Ode and laid a wreath and raised the flags. We reflect on the blessings afforded to us through the sacrifice of those who came before us.

Playgrounds

Our Year 2 students will notice that over the holidays we had our wooden fort playspace removed. Due to some ongoing compliance concerns, the fort was removed. We will endeavour to replace this playspace. In the meantime lots of imaginative play in the sand is possible.

The Tower Playground opened this week and has proved to be a hit. Preps to Year 2 are NOT Permitted to use the playground. It is designed for our older students from Year 3 - Year 6. Adequate supervision and safety measures have been put in place to promote fun and safe play. Urban Play (the designer and builder) conducted a photo shoot this week and we can’t wait to see the outcomes.

Camps

This term our Year 4’s, Year 5’s and Year 6’s will have the opportunity to attend various camps. The students and teachers are all becoming quite excited. This year we will have various members of the leadership team attending the different camps to assist in ensuring the fun, safety and expected behaviours of all students attending.

Draft Food and Drink Policy

Our school board has been working hard to develop our school policy for food and drink based upon our Healthy Eats Accreditation. Can you please take some time to review the proposed Food and Drink Policy and then please fill in the attached survey (Link Here)

Carpark & Access Road

We thank everyone for their patience with the carpark changes. Due to the recent rain, there has been a delay to the completion of the new access road. The road is now not anticipated to be open until approximately 15th May. As such Bishop Putney Drive will REMAIN OPEN for now. More information will be provided closer to the proposed opening time. Staff will continue to utilise the school carpark until the new temporary carpark is accessible via the access road. We remind families that along with our school staff parking at their workplace, we also have Kindergarten and OSHC staff parking at their workplace.

Welcome back to Term 2!

I trust that you've all had a restful break and are geared up and ready to go with what is sure to be another busy term. Some events that are coming up this term include camps for our students in Year 4, 5 and 6, excursions, ANZAC Day March, interschool Cross country and our interhouse athletics carnival, on top of all the wonderful learning opportunities that are given to our students every day!

SACRAMENTAL PROGRAM

I've been fortunate to spend the day today with our 18 students engaging in the Sacramental Program retreat day, along with other students from our diocese. On Monday and Wednesday night, these students will complete their sacramental journey with Confirmation and First Holy Communion. I'd like to congratulate all of these students and their families for taking the next step in their spiritual lives.

ANAZAC March

On Tuesday, St Benedict's will be joining the Thuringowa ANZAC march. ALL students are invited to join us on the day. We will be meeting in the Weir School carpark on Ross River Rd from 8:30am for the march to push off from 9:00. The march moves down Ross River Rd and concludes in Riverway Park, where students and families are welcome to stay for the preceding service. We ask student attending to please wear their full formal uniform, their hat and a waterbottle, as it can get a little warm.

eProjects

Have you seen our new eProjects video? Our eProjects (Project Based Learning) are aimed at teaching students about the importance of environmental stewardship. We provide students with hands-on, interactive experiences in order to better understand the current challenges and opportunities we face in preserving our planet. Through our projects, students develop an understanding of the importance of conservation, create action plans to reduce their own environmental footprint, and ultimately become environmental stewards themselves. We endeavor to instill a love for learning and care for God's creation. Click here to watch the video!

In this edition of SchoolTV - INTERNET ADDICTION

In today’s digital environment, the internet can be viewed as a valuable tool for education, research and entertainment. Young people today tend to go from one screen to another, but how much is too much? Time spent in the ‘screen world’ has parents concerned that their kids may be missing out on real life experiences. Therefore, it is vitally important to a child’s wellbeing for parents to regulate a child’s internet use.

Internet addiction can cause significant psychological and social problems for children in years to come. The true effects on future generations is not yet known, but there are strategies that parents can implement now.

In this edition, Dr Michael Carr-Gregg discusses what causes internet addiction, who is most at risk and what parents can do to regulate the amount of time their kids spend online each day.

Woodstock Horse Sports would like to invite any students, along with their families to our annual Inter-school horse sports challenge. This year is being done a little differently. We are holding a Sticks Spectacular event on Saturday the 29th of April which is open to anyone at any age or experience level to ride in followed by the inter-school challenge on Sunday the 30th of April.
