Hi everyone,
I am writing this early as I am about to head off for my first conference at Paluma. I feel like I’ve packed for a month with the joys of having to take all my bedding like the kids do for their trips to Gumburu. I trust the disco tonight (Wednesday) is going to be a huge success as each of our previous ones have been. It has been wonderful this time around to have a number of different parents contributing to the planning and organising for this event. Well done to everyone involved as i have no doubt the kids will have a great time.
This morning I did talk to the kids at morning parade about the use of some of our school resources especially sporting equipment as they are being too complacent with putting things away properly and have used some things like hula hoops and soccer nets in ways that they are not purposed for and therefore damaged them. I have also spoken to the children about a number of items being taken from the storage room where we keep the morning activities. The items belonged to the P&F and include a number of missing chocolates etc. This is especially disappointing to know because we have always worked within an element of trust and responsibility with children accessing this area to do the setting up and packing up for morning activities. I was quite stern with the children and told them that I would be calling parents if I was made aware of these behaviours continuing. I hope I have your support in reminding your children about appropriate behaviours when it comes to other people’s property.
Early Drop off
Please be reminded that if you need to drop off before 8.00am that are best advised to use the OSHC service or stay and supervise your children until a teacher comes on duty at 8.00am. We have far too many children arriving at school and being left unsupervised in the hall.
Behaviour Policy
Our Student Behaviour Policy was ratified at this week’s Board Meeting and will be uploaded to our website before the end of this term. Thank you for your feedback and especially to the Board for your collaboration on this policy.
Parent Teacher Interviews
Please note that we will be hosting Parent Teacher Interviews in the Hall on Tues 10 and Wed 11 September. You will be sent details on how to book for these very soon. These interviews are not compulsory this term but are a valuable opportunity to discuss your child’s progress and participation at school.
Father's Day
This weekend I hope that all our father and father figures are treated to a sensational Father's Day celebration. Fathers are so important in the lives of children and we are grateful for all that they do.
Have a fabulous week. I’ll see you in another week’s time when I am back from Adelaide.
Cheers
Penny
Welcome to the end of another busy week at St Benedict’s. We started this week with assembly presented by our 5/6 Turtles about the Month of Prayer for Creation. With Stewardship being one of the four values at St Benny’s, the Prayer for Creation is something very important in our community. In the words of Pope Francis in his Encyclical - Laudato Si;
“Let us be protectors of creation, protectors of God’s plan inscribed in nature, protectors of one another and the environment”.
Our Catholic Identity Committee (made up of teachers and school officers) have created a guided meditation about creation which they have shared with all classes to look at and pray with during the month of September. We will also be using this at our end of term Whole School Meditation, taking place in ‘the Hall’ on Monday 16 September at 8:45am. ALL are welcome to attend this event.
On the Value of Stewardship, another event for the diaries is our St Benedict’s Eco Fest. This will also be taking place on Monday 16 September in ‘the Hall’ between 11:30am and 1:00pm. We have a range of community members sharing their knowledge as well as showing off what ALL our classes have been working on in their eProjects throughout the year. Again, ALL members of our community are welcome to attend
This Sunday is Father's Day, a time to be grateful for and acknowledge all of the father and father figures in our lives. I hope that everyone gets a chance over the weekend to be able to do this. Our Prep Platypus class will be presenting assembly about Father's Day at 8:45am in ‘the Hall’. With this is mind, I wanted to leave you all this week with a prayer for Fathers:
Have a great week and God bless,
Nick

If you are experiencing difficulty booking your interview, please call the office and they will assist you.
The booking system will close at 2.00pm on Monday 9th September.
We look forward to discussing your child's progress.
