It’s been another busy week at St Benedict’s! Following on from last weeks ‘Book Week’, students in Prep - Year 2 had a visit for author Aleesha Darlinson. It’s been wonderful to have a selection of different authors come in and speak to our students and foster a real energy behind reading at St Benedict’s. It is such a vital skill that sticks with us throughout our whole life and it’s great to see our students really building a love or reading. Again, a huge thanks must go out to Mrs Whalley for organising, not only the author visits, but the wonderful set up and management of the library to ensure that all of our students get the chance to borrow and read from a large selection of books!
A big congratulations must go to the team who built our school, Jackson Semler, who won the North Queensland Master Builders Award for and Education facility over $10 million, and another award for Energy Efficiency as well. We certainly love what you’ve done here, and believe you are indeed worthy recipients of this award! Click on the following link to see some amazing photos of our school!

Two weeks ago, I had the opportunity to take a group of students to our first Interschool Athletics Carnival. I would like to report back some of the wonderful results achieved by some of our students on the day:
Alannah Goodwin: 2nd Place 9yr Girls Long Jump
2nd Place 9yr Girls High Jump
3rd Place 9yr Girls 80m Sprint
Mia Gibson: 3rd Place 10yr Girls Shot Put
Blaize Goodwin: 3rd Place 9yr Boys 80m Sprint
Congratulations to these students, they will be presented with their certificates on Mondays assembly. A big thanks to all the parents who were there to help supervise on the day, as well as Mr Tudehope from St Clare’s, who allowed some of our students to come over and practice high jump using their school facilities!
Finally, a big thank you to Prep Platypus for leading us in assembly on Monday morning on the theme of ‘Being Thankful’. In our new school, we have many things to be thankful of with our wonderful new facilities. Most importantly however, is to be thankful for each other, whose friendships help to enrich our lives and help us grow every day. This Monday, Our 4/5/6 Turtles are leading our assembly on the theme of ‘Father’s Day’, so if any father’s are able to attend, we’d love to see you there, and as always, ALL are welcome!
Have a great week, and God bless,
Nick

Year 4/5/6 - Well Done Annalee
On Sunday Annalee from Year 4/5/6 Turtles participated in the 'Put your foot down walk' for pancreatic cancer to raise funds and awareness. The walk was 4.5km long and Annalee did the whole walk in memory of her Aunty. Well done Annalee a wonderful achievement to be proud of!
