Stage 2 Building Project Blessing and Opening
We celebrated our Stage Two Opening and Blessing on Thursday this week. It was again a very special occasion to acknowledge the financial support from the Qld State Government but also to recognise the people who have continued to support and nurture our school. From Townsville Catholic Education to our architects and builders to our landscapers, parents, staff and students; we have all had a part in creating the vision that is bringing St Benedict’s to a reality. I continue to be incredibly proud of our school and as the Bishop said at the ceremony,’ buildings are really just buildings until the community brings them to life’ but boy our buildings are pretty amazing spaces to work and to learn.
Thank you to everyone involved in the ceremony. Again, it was another event where we were limited with numbers and therefore parents could not be invited but I know many of you were there in spirit. I am very grateful to our APRE, Mr Nick Christie for planning and coordinating this event. As always Nick does things very quietly but is always so thoughtful about what he puts together to ensure it is representative of our school values. Thank you also to Janeen Swanson, Melissa Dellaway, Joe Apap, Ngaire Trigg and Belinda Piccolo for your support in the organisation for this event. It is our team that brings these things together.
Classrooms and Covid- 19
Please remember that as a general expectation, we prefer for parents to wait in the hall to pick up their children; only making your way to the classroom area once the bell has gone. Please understand that this was in place to ensure children were engaged in learning right through to the end of the day as they can become quite distracted once they see parents arriving.
During this ongoing period of restrictions due to Covid-19, we do prefer that parents wait in the hall or are using the ‘Pick up and Go’ zone. We are required to limit the number of additional adults on our school site and having parents around classrooms, not only distracts children from learning but does not assist us in adhering to the expectations placed on us regarding public health.
Can I also please remind parents not to line up in the Pick up and Go Zone before 3.00pm. Lining up here creates a problem for parents wanting to access the car parking spaces that are available. We lasted about one week with parents not lining up from 2.15pm after my last reminder. This is simply not good enough and needs to change. Children are not dismissed from classrooms until 3.00pm and most take a couple of minutes to make it to the front of the school. If you are here before 3.00pm, please use the car parks available and avoid creating congestion by lining up so early.
Parent/Teacher Interviews
Just a reminder - please do not arrive early for your interviews as per Covid-19 restrictions we are trying to restrict numbers in the hall. And please keep the meeting to the 10 minutes as teachers need to meet wtih other parents.
Father’s Day
Best wishes to all our dads and father figures in our community for this Sunday. As dads you all play such an important role in the life of your children and research is certainly telling us how important dads can be in nurturing their children’s long term wellbeing and success in life (no pressure :))
I hope you are all spoiled rotten with love and creative breakfasts in bed :).
Have a fabulous week.
Year 1 Wallabies have been learning about retelling this term. Students have written, illustrated and read their retells to the class. We had fun retelling Olga the Brolga, the Little Corroboree Frog, and The Bunyip of Berkeley's Creek.
We are holding Parent-Teacher Interviews on Tuesday 8th September from 3.30pm - 7pm, and Wednesday 9th September from 3.30pm - 5pm. The interviews will be held in the Hall each day. We encourage you to book a 10-minute time slot for an interview to discuss your child's progress. Please note that this is not a compulsory meeting but a chance to catch up with your child's teacher to discuss their progress.
If you are using your phone to make your interview booking, please check that you are using the latest version of the Compass App to ensure you have all the features that have recently been added. Please see instuctions to assist in booking an interview.
If you are experiencing difficulty booking your interview, please call the office and they will assist you.
The booking system will close at 2.00pm on Monday 7th September.
