We’ve reached the end of another week at St Benedict’s and there’s still plenty happening! Prep Platypus did a wonderful job in leading us in assembly today, celebrating the assumption of Mary, Mother of Jesus. They prayed about Mary’s trust that she placed in God, and that we too might follow in Mary’s footsteps by living in faith and trust, by having the strength and courage to be kind and generous and by knowing that God is always with us. I always look forward to Prep assemblies, as I found out today, some other students do as well! In chatting with some of the Year 6 girls before assembly, they said to me how much they look forward to Prep assemblies, because “They’re all so little and cute”. I did remind them that it was them not too long ago as well!
A reminder that NEXT FRIDAY, 26 August, is our Book Week Parade. Students are invited to dress as their favourite character for the parade. Students may want to bring their uniform to get changed into afterwards, or choose to wear their costume all day - but a reminder that they are still required to wear their hat and closed in shoes for lunch breaks and while outside. The parade starts at 8:45am in the Hall. All parents, carers and family members are invited to attend!

Science Week
Thank you to Mrs Rockemer for setting up an amazing experience for all our classes in the Science Centre this week. Big Feelings
“I hate you!” Have you noticed that your child has had more and more big feelings? These can be a sign of growing understanding about their own emotions and reactions to situations. Oftentimes, children can appear to be ‘taking it out’ on those at home. This is usually due to them feeling safest and most comfortable at home and allows them the safe place they need to practice their skills. This can mean we as adults need to have the skills to help them learn and grow. The Big Life Journal offers some great resources to assist in this area. Here is a sample that might help some out.

Science Week
Thank you to all the parents and friends who could come and celebrate science with us during Science Week. It was wonderful for the children to be able to share their learning with you.

Thank you to parents/carers and other staff for sharing your ideas and resources to make the week successful. A special mention to Tyson from Greentech for sharing the solar panels, and Ashlee from TCC for sharing the information and resources about recycling glass.

Also thank you to Louise Costanzo our ‘CSIRO Scientist in Schools’ partner for spending time with some of the classes, and for the extra lava lamp experiment at lunch time. Here is the experiment if you would like to do it yourself at home (DIY Science: Lava Lamp):
Yours in Learning,
