Hi everyone,
Thank you so much to everyone who was able to join us at the Swimming Carnival yesterday. The kids were amazing and it was really great to have so many parents there, especially those helping out in various ways. I was particularly proud of how the students were cheering on and encouraging others to do their best, especially those kids where swimming is not their strength. I was also very grateful to the number of parents who shared their gratitude for the nature of the day and for the efforts of our staff in organising the day.
Next year, as we grow in number again we will be moving our Swimming Carnival to Long Tan which may assist in everyone being able to see a little easier. We may even make some changes to the schedule to help keep the kids engaged throughout the whole morning.
Over the next couple of weeks, we will be finalising class arrangements for 2020, preparing budgets and plans and our teachers will be finalising report cards all leading into the last week of school where we have many things planned for transition to 2020 and to acknowledge and celebrate the successes of this year. I hope many of you can join us for our End of Year Liturgy on Monday 2 Dec at 9.00am. During this liturgy, we will also have the Rite of Passage for our Year 6 students as they prepare to head off to secondary school.
On Tuesday 3 December is when we have our Step Up/ Orientation Day. All students will spend the morning session in their new class group, in the new classroom with their new class teacher for 2020. This includes our new Prep students for 2020. Unfortunately we will be missing two of our new teachers as they have other commitments they cannot change. The students will however experience their new class grouping and their new classroom.
On Wednesday 3 December, we are hosting our very special O’Holy Night where the students will lead us in some beautiful Christmas Carols and some non-traditional Christmas songs as well as showcasing some of the line-dancing they have learnt this term.
Enjoy a very restful weekend and have a fabulous week ahead.
Cheers
Penny
We now only have 3 weeks remaining in the term! I can break that down further to only 15 days, which doesn’t sound like a whole lot! There are of course plenty of events still to come to finish our year off in style, so don’t forget to check out our flyers below and any updates on our school pages.
Monday began with a beautiful Remembrance Day liturgy led by students in our Defence Families. We were also fortunate to have Sargent Aircrewman Matthew Clyne join us to share what Remembrance Day meant to him, as well as a visit from Fr Dave to share some wisdom, reminding us all that peace begins with us.
During the week I was sent an article written by a Benedictine Sister, Joan Chittister in regards to the idea of ‘time’. Knowing that we are in a ‘busy’ time of the year, I wanted to include a section of her article which urges us to take a moment each day. Please read:
I have only just a minute,
Only 60 seconds in it.
Given to me, didn’t choose it.
Mustn’t waste it, can’t refuse it.
But I must suffer if I lose it.
We are, in fact, obsessed with time. We’re a pragmatic, productive people, and time is the national God. It shows in our language. No other people on earth speak of time as we do. We spend time and invest time and need time and lose time and save time and waste time and find time and buy time and gain time and want time. And, in the end, time, not life, threatens to absorb us.
Time, we assume, is for doing something, for producing things, for achieving goals. And in our commitment to pragmatism and effectiveness, we far too often fail to realize that life is really about becoming a person of merit and worth. It might be useful to take a moment each day to give more serious consideration to what we are becoming rather than what we are doing as time goes by.
